The N.J. woman told Port Authority police that she stopped her car at the airport to eat some cake and would be on her way soon.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — When police officers came across Dehabah R. Sylvester, she was eating cake.
That’s why Sylvester, 31, of Bloomfield, parked her car at Newark Airport on Saturday night, she told Port Authority police officers. It was part of a chain of events that eventually led to DWI charges, authorities say.
According to police, officers on patrol near the airport responded to a report of a vehicle accident around 10:30 p.m. at Brewster Road and Aris Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, witnesses told them that they saw a black Nissan exit the parkway, swerve and hit a curb so hard it blew one of its tires. Despite the flattened tire, the motorist kept going, driving on the car’s rim, witnesses said.
