Nutley Cops Arrest 2 Burglary, Theft Suspects After Chase: Police

More police patrols in Nutley have been paying off with more arrests, authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police arrested two burglary and theft suspects after a foot chase last week, authorities announced Friday.

The early morning arrests took place on Oct. 21, according to the Nutley Police Department.

Chief Thomas Strumolo said the encounter began when a vehicle was “targeted” on Elm Street. A short time later, several other vehicles on Grant Avenue were also targeted.

Here’s what happened next, Strumolo said:

“Two juveniles then opened the rear door of a Grant Avenue residence, causing the alarm to sound. [They] were immediately confronted by the homeowner. The two fled east on Grant Avenue and were apprehended by police after a foot pursuit near the Passaic River.”

Earlier in the week, Nutley police apprehended two juveniles after they were caught breaking into cars on Yale and Franklin Avenue, authorities said.

“The chief and I have added patrols and specialized details to address these concerns and [they have been] paying off with nearly a dozen arrests in the past few weeks,” Police Director Alphonse Petracco said.

“Please continue to lock doors in your cars, homes and report all suspicious activity to police immediately,” Petracco added.
