Nutley Cops Find ATM Skimmer At Local Bank, 2nd This Year

Have you recently used the drive-through ATM at the PNC Bank in Nutley? Your personal information may be in jeopardy, police say.

Nutley, NJ – Have you recently used the drive-through ATM at the PNC Bank on Franklin Avenue in Nutley? Your personal information may be in jeopardy, police say.

According to the Nutley Police Department, officers located an ATM skimming device at PNC Bank at 495 Franklin Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said that the device - which is different in appearance then a device recovered at a local 7-11 earlier this year – wasn’t visible from the exterior of machine.

Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said the concern is that the memory or "sim" card had already been removed prior to technicians accessing the main device.

Strumolo said that anyone who recently used the drive through ATM may have had their personal information jeopardized and they should contact their bank.

According to Strumolo, the device is designed to capture information, not withdraw money. The police chief said that once the sim card is removed and the information is downloaded, a card is then fabricated with the victims, name, number and magnetic strip, and either sold or used to withdraw funds from another location before the victim ever knows their account had been sacrificed.

Nutley detectives are investigating the incident and reviewing area surveillance in an effort to identify the person who placed it there, and are working with Clifton police who are investigating a similar device found in their jurisdiction, police said.
