Nutley police said James Pica admitted to beating his 84-year-old mother-in-law to death in an affidavit, according to an NJ.com report.

NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley man told police he beat his 84-year-old mother-in-law to death over two days, according to a report from NJ.com.

James Pica, 58, told authorities he was sleep-deprived and angry about being the sole provider of his household, according to the report.

Pica was arrested and charged with murder in the killing of Barbara Bezzone on Tuesday night at a house on Prospect Street after he told dispatchers he killed his mother-in-law. Police pronounced Bezzone dead at the scene.

Pica shared the house with Bezzone and Pica's husband, according to the report.
