Nutley Resident Avoids Phone Scam From Fake 'Police Officer'
A Nutley woman got a call from a man claiming to be a cop. Here's what he told her, authorities said.
NUTLEY, NJ — Another Nutley resident may have avoided a phone scam after hearing of repeated incidents of fraud in the past, authorities reported Friday.
The Nutley Police Department released the following statement about the incident, which took place on Tuesday:
“Police took a report from a Nutley resident, who reported that they received a call from a man claiming to be a police officer. He told the woman her grandson had been involved in a motor vehicle accident involving a pregnant woman, and was being held in jail until she was able to send cash bail overnight. Aware from prior blotter reports, the woman notified police, who contacted Missouri police in an effort to obtain information regarding a postal address provided. No money was sent.”
