Nutley Storm Causes Property Damage Across Town: Police

Nutley police reported that a late March storm caused several instances of property damage across the township.

Nutley, NJ – Nutley police reported that a late March storm caused several instances of property damage across the township.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the following incidents took place:

  • March 28 - Property Damage – Carteret Place – A hazardous condition was reported in the area. Officers observed a large tree had fallen on a maroon Mini Cooper in the driveway. The tree was originally located closer to the street and was designated township property. The tree was also resting on a PSE&G cable, but the wire was still intact. PSE&G was notified and stated they would respond. A message was left for Shade Tree in regards to the incident. The vehicle sustained damage to the front of the vehicle including scratches and dents. The driver’s side mirror was also broken off the car. Insurance information was documented in the report.
  • March 29 - Property Damage – North Spring Garden Avenue – Officers responded to the area for a large tree limb that broke off of a township tree and took down phone/cable wires which were connected to a residence. A car parked in the driveway sustained minor scratches on the passenger side of the vehicle. Members of the Nutley Fire Department were able to cut the phone and cable wires so it would no longer be a hazard. The area was cordoned off with caution tape and traffic barrels until Shade Tree was available to arrive and remove the debris.
  • March 29 - Property Damage – Albany Avenue – A home sustained damage from a fallen tree due to the high winds in the storm. The residence sustained damage to the front steps railing, roof, gutters, siding, as well as a fence near the brook. Officers observed that the tree had fallen from the rear parking lot and was resting just above water level above the brook. The tree caused damage to the pavement in the parking lot as well as a fence along the brook. Nutley Shade Tree was contacted in regards to the tree being suspended over the brook for their evaluation.
  • March 29 - Property Damage – Franklin Terrace – Officers responded to the area on the report of property damage. Observed was a large tree branch that fell through the roof of the Franklin Fire Station damaging the roof and inner framework. Shade Tree arrived on scene to remove the branch.
