Nutley Youth Program Will Promote Character-Building Skills

The Nutley Health Department and Nutley Police Department have joined forces to create a new program for area youth.

BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ - From the Township of Nutley: Commissioner Steven Rogers announces that Nutley Health Department in partnership with Nutley Police Department are beginning a new initiative within Nutley’s Bernie’s Club. This initiative is directed towards providing teens and children of Nutley with a fun interactive opportunity to learn how to make choices that promote, strong character, good decision making, goal setting, addiction avoidance, development of strong productive relationships with peers and trusted adults, how we perceive others, how we are perceived and much, much more. Members will have opportunity to learn how physical, emotional and financial choices work together to form a more healthy, happy and successful life. In a world where the youth culture is often focused on creating the outside of yourself (Avatar), this initiative will focus on creating yourself from the inside out! Meetings will inform members that they play a very important role in who they are and who they are becoming. Bernie’s “I am” Program builds on the foundation that parents, teachers, healthcare workers and so many other trusted adults have been building in the lives of Nutley’s teens and children. Members will proudly be able to fill in the blanks of their life by saying “I am … _______ (kind, happy, strong, able, forgiving, healthy, successful, wise, etc…).

The “I am” Program kickoff event on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 10:30am – 12:00pm meeting at
the Nutley Department of Public Affairs building at 149 Chestnut Street is FREE and for ALL Nutley
Students. This event is an introduction to the program and will be fun and interactive with
opportunities to win prizes and earn points that traded at future meetings for Paw Prizes. To further
enhance the quality of the learning experience provided to club members, special speakers will
periodically present the topic of their expertise in accordance with the related Bernie’s Club “I am”
Program Objectives. Motivating and empowering the children of Nutley with practical skills to build a
healthy start in life is a priority for Nutley Health Department and Nutley Police Department. Parents
