The Phoenix Center’s Family Night Supports Special-Needs Alumni Transition Beyond Graduation
The Phoenix Center host Alumni Family Restaurant Night Out at Mr. Bruno's Pizzeria, bringing together alumni, families, and staff.
On Thursday, January 15, 2026 ,The Phoenix Center, an accredited private special-needs school serving students ages 5–21 with autism, multiple disabilities, behavioral, and intellectual disabilities, hosted an Alumni Family Restaurant Night Out at Mr. Bruno’s Pizzeria (439 Valley Brook Avenue, Lyndhurst). The evening brought together alumni, families, and staff for a structured yet relaxed dinner designed to strengthen social skills, foster independence, and maintain meaningful connections beyond the classroom.
This event is part of The Phoenix Center’s Graduate Support Program, which helps young adults and their families navigate the complex transition to adult life. The alumni practice real-world social and communication skills in a community setting with Phoenix Center staff, while families connect with one another to continue building supportive networks. The night reflects a growing emphasis on post-graduation services: supporting social-emotional growth, interpersonal skills, and confidence outside of school hours. Programs like this demonstrate how schools can remain active partners in students’ long-term success, from exit planning and guardianship workshops to ongoing alumni engagement.
"Seeing our alumni thrive in the community is the ultimate reward. These nights are full of smiles, memories, and the true spirit of The Phoenix Center!" said Kim Wynbeek, Director of Related Services at The Phoenix Center.
