The rainstorm and ensuing flooding that caused widespread damage in Essex County on Sunday, May 31 didn’t spare Nutley.
Township police reported several instances of storm-related damage that took place:
- Warren Street - A large tree branch fell on a parked, unoccupied vehicle, crashing through the rear window and causing damage to the roof.
- Booth Drive – At the Nutley Library, a large tree limb broke off and fell onto the foot path. The limb was too large to be moved, so it was left on the footpath. The tree limb took down a live electric wire and crushed a hand rail.
- Woodland Avenue and Race Street - A large, downed tree limb pulled down a holding cable (non-electric) attached to a telephone pole, blocking the roadway. The tree limb caused damage to the telephone pole causing it to snap. Police contacted PSE&G, who responded and secured the telephone pole. Shade Tree arrived to remove the tree limb from the roadway.
- On June 2, two days after the storm, a large tree limb fell across the eastbound lane of Centre Street, falling in between two vehicles but causing no damage.
