Details Revealed In Violent N.J. Crash: Multiple Injuries, Victim Shot

A story is developing about a violent crash in New Jersey Thursday that involved gunfire.

A car crashed through a telephone pole and into a tree in New Jersey on early Thursday morning, and one of the occupants had a gunshot wound to his or her head, according to authorities.

Three of the five passengers in the Belleville crash remained hospitalized Friday, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The driver, a 22-year-old male who was shot, was in critical condition. Two others, a 27-year-old and a 19-year-old, were also hospitalized after the 2:30 a.m. incident.

The other two passengers in the car have been treated and released. The driver and all of the passengers in the vehicle are residents of Newark, according to the ECPO.

The red Pontiac was inolved a single-car crash in the area of Franklin Avenue and Mill Street in Belleville. The preliminary investigation indicates the Pontiac was in Newark and followed into Belleville by another vehicle just prior to the crash and shooting.

The incident happened after a red car careened into a telephone pole and tree, causing the pole to split and tip over, according to authorities.

Police and firefighters responded to the crash, with one of the occupants of the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Numerous injuries were reported, and one man was spotted being wheeled away on a stretcher.

According to preliminary reports, a vehicle reportedly came under gunfire by unidentified assailants, with a shooter firing multiple rounds in the direction of the vehicle, according to RLS Media.

The vehicle under fire reportedly sped off toward Franklin Avenue where the crashed occurred, according to the report.
