State Police: Extra Patrols This Week In Bad-Driving Crackdown
The State Police will be vigilant in looking for speeding, aggressive driving, seatbelt enforcement and proper use of cell phones.

If you’re driving on the New Jersey Turnpike and I-95 this week, be really careful.
Beginning Tuesday, the State Police will be especially vigilant in looking for speeding, aggressive driving, seatbelt enforcement and proper use of cell phones, according to a State Police press release.
The effort has been named the “I-95 Challenge,” part of the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s “Drive to Save Lives” campaign. The campaign is part of a national effort aimed at significantly reducing the more than 33,000 highway deaths that occur annually on U.S. roadways, according tothe release.

The “challenge “will involve three enforcement periods starting this week, March 24-29. The next two periods will be Aug. 4-9, and Dec. 29-31.
During these dates, the New Jersey State Police will have increased patrols across the state along the I-95 corridor.

“We are always exploring new ways to combat crash-related fatalities and injuries,” said Col. Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “In addition to increased boots on the ground, we plan on using social media messaging to educate and ultimately deter unsafe driving practices - not only along I-95, but statewide.”
