A woman was allegedly fleeced out of an $800 necklace in Nutley by a group of people in a car, authorities said.
NUTLEY, NJ — A woman was allegedly fleeced out of an $800 necklace in Nutley by a group of people in a car earlier this month, authorities said.
According to the Nutley Police Department, the theft took place on Aug. 5. The victims told officers that as they were walking on Washington Avenue, a man in a car beckoned them over. The man – whom the pedestrians described as about 40-years-old – then asked the male victim to “give blessings” to his sick mother in the back seat of the car.
There were also two other people in the vehicle, one of whom was about 25-years-old. The woman in the back seat gave the male victim some rings to try on, then placed a necklace on the female victim. She then told both victims to keep the jewelry, police stated.

It wasn’t until the walk home that the female victim realized her gold necklace – worth about $800 – was missing, police said.
“It is believed that the female passenger removed the necklace from the victim’s neck when they placed the other necklace on them,” police stated in a news release.
