World Cup Soccer Expected To Snarl Traffic In Nutley

NUTLEY, NJ — World Cup soccer has arrived in New Jersey, and it’s expected to cause some traffic backup in Nutley, authorities say.

The FIFA World Cup games in New Jersey officially kicked off on Saturday. The tournament's local matches are being played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, which has been temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium.

The official stadium shuttle will be running out of the Hackensack Meridian Health complex at the ON3 property on Kingsland Street, according to the Nutley Police Department.

“Spectators who will be using the shuttle service will be arriving utilizing the roads in the immediate area and this will likely cause traffic congestion,” Nutley police said.

Authorities noted that matches will be held on June 13, June 16, June 22, June 25, June 27, June 30, July 5 and July 19.

“We strongly encourage motorists to plan alternate routes of travel if possible to avoid the area of Kingsland Street between Cathedral Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue on those dates,” police advised.

• “I think we will survive. If we’re prepared we will do like when the Super Bowl was here. I think it was great that they can use the ON3 to get the buses for the people to the games. I’m not a fan of soccer or many other sports , but for events like this I will think it’s exciting!”
