Bayville First Aid and Berkeley Animal Control holds Rabies Clinic

Bayville First Aid Rabies Clinic

On November 7th, Bayville Volunteer First Aid Squad, with the Berkeley Animals Control Office and Toms River Animal Hospital held their annual Rabies Clinic at the Bayville Volunteer First Aid Building. Over 100 dogs and cats received rabies vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control has recommended that all dogs and cats receive the rabies vaccination. Rabies is a preventable viral disease of mammals most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system, ultimately causing disease in the brain and can lead to death. The early symptoms of rabies in people are similar to that of many other illnesses, including fever, headache, and general weakness or discomfort. If you have been bitten by an animal you should wash the wounds area immediately. One of the most effective ways to decrease the chance for infection is to wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water, and either call 911 for help or go immediately to your doctor for attention.
Individuals also were able to see the newest addition to the Bayville Volunteer First Aid Squad, animal oxygen masks which were donated by Inviable Fence. When we arrive on a scene and find an unconscious animal, the current oxygen mask will not work. This is because of the smaller faces of animals, the mask cannot form a good suction on the face of the animal. Therefore, smaller oxygen masks are needed. Thus we asked for donations so the squad can purchase additional oxygen animal mask from the Emma Zen Foundation, so each ambulance and squad emergency vehicle would have an animal oxygen mask kit. The kit which consist of a small, medium and large oxygen mask cost $100.00. During the clinic we were able to raise $200.00 which will allow us to purchase 2 more animal oxygen kits and we still need three more kits. If you wish to donate please make your check out to Bayville First Aid Squad and it the memo part write “for animal oxygen kit”. Mail your donation to Bayville First Aid Squad, PO Box 374, Bayville New Jersey 08721.
