Cops: Berkeley Man Exposed Himself To Woman And Her Granddaughter

Incident took place in front of a woman and her four-year-old granddaughter.

Berkeley police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office have charged a Bayville man with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after her grandmother reported he exposed himself and performed a sex act in front of them in Mill Creek County Park.

Berkeley Detective Joseph Santoro and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit Detective Melissa Matthews charged David Hegyes, 38, Shore Boulevard, after an investigation by the Berkeley Township Police Department, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office.

Berkeley Patrolman Jonathan Mulvihill responded to a 911 call from an adult female on May 7 reporting that Hegyes was allegedly exposing himself and masturbating in view of her and her four-year-old granddaughter by the playground at Mill Creek County Park, he said.

Mulvihill located Hegyes in the playground area of the park and transported Hegyes to the Berkeley police department to continue the investigation.Hegyes was charged with lewdness and taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.

Detective Matthews interviewed the victims on May 8. Based based on their statements, Senior Assistant Prosecutor Terry Linardakis approved charges against Hegyes for sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. His bail was set at $75,000. A Nicole’s Law no victim contact order was implemented.
