Bayville Man Injured In Two-Car Crash

The crash in Brick Township sent Anthony Piazza and two others to the hospital, police said.

Three people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-car collision that closed the intersection of Old Hooper Avenue and Drum Point Road in Brick, police said.

Yvonne Oliver, 66, of Brick; Anthony Piazza, 68, of Bayville, and Walter Knueppel, 57, of Toms River, after the crash, which happened shortly after 1 p.m., according to a release from Sgt. Neal Pedersen.

The crash occurred when Piazza, who was northbound on Old Hooper in a 2000 Mercury Sable, turned left in front of Oliver’s 2013 Nissan Altima, which was southbound on Old Hooper, Pedersen said.

Oliver suffered a head injury, he said. Piazza and his passenger, Knueppel, both of whom had to be extricated from the Sable, suffered internal injuries, he said.

Pioneer Hose Fire Company extricated Piazza and Knueppel from the Sable, and all three victims were transported to the hospital by Brick Police First Aid, Pedersen said. Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and Ocean Medical Center in Brick received the patients, but it was not immediately clear which person was taken where.

Patrolman Vincent Rosa and Patrolman Robert Scelfo responded to the initial call, and Pedersen and Patrolman Jay Lampiasi from the Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene for the further investigation, Pedersen said.
