Bayville Man Sentenced For Trying To Lure Girl For Sex

Charles Schlottfeld and another man were each sentenced to four years in prison for using social media to lure underage girls.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Bayville man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday for using social media to lure underage girls. Charles Schlottfeld and another man believed he was meeting a 14-year-old girl in September 2018 but instead encountered an undercover officer, according to the Office of Attorney General.

Schlottfeld and William Singleton, of Pemberton, pleaded guilty to second-degree luring. Singleton, 25, received the same prison sentence. Both must register as sex offenders and will be subjected to parole supervision for life.

Schlottfeld, 28, and Singleton were arrested during Operation Open House, a multiagency undercover operation that led to the arrests of 24 men accused of using social media to lure children for sexual activity.

In each case, an undercover detective New Jersey Regional Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force communicated with them on social media. The men believed the detective was a 14-year-old girl, and they asked her to meet for sexual activity.

Singleton was arrested Sept. 7 and Singleton two days later after they arrived at an undercover house in Toms River.

“We will never cease in our efforts to arrest those who use the internet and social media to sexually exploit children, either by distributing child sexual abuse materials or by grooming children to sexually abuse or assault,” said Veronica Allende, director of the Division of Criminal Justice.
