Beachwood Library To Hold Event On NJ's Role In Women's Suffrage

BEACHWOOD, NJ — New Jersey's role is often overlooked in the long fight for women's right to vote. An event at the Beachwood Branch of the Ocean County Library will discuss the Garden State's role in the cause.
The event is called "Reclaiming Our Voice: New Jersey's Central Role in the Fight for Woman Suffrage." It will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Beachwood library (126 Beachwood Blvd.).
Women's suffrage was ratified in the U.S. Constitution on Aug. 18, 1920. The victory took decades of agitation and protest. And even afterward, some women were marginalized at the voting booth. In some southern states, black women couldn't exercise their right to vote until the 1960s.
