Berkeley Hires More Class II Police Officers For Summer Of 2016

Trainees must first go through the Ocean County Police Academy, mayor says.

Berkeley Township Council members recently voted to hire six Class 2 Special police officers trainees to bolster coverage in both the South Seaside Park and Pelican Island sections of the township in the summer of 2016.

“In order to be prepared for Memorial Day, we are hiring...so we can get them in the police academy and trained,” Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Berkeley first used Class II officers last summer to increase protection for those areas during the summer months, when the population explodes. The township had relied on neighboring Seaside Park in the past.
