Berkeley Reminds Residents To Wear Red For 'Carly Day'

Carly Day honors the memory of Carly Fetzer, a beloved Bayville resident who passed away in 2019 of a congenital heart defect.

BERKELEY, NJ — It's been nearly three years since Carly Fetzer passed away. But don't think for a moment that the beloved Bayville girl and her beautiful smile have been forgotten for a moment.

Saturday marks the fourth annual "Carly Day," which was created by proclamation to honor her memory yearly on Feb. 12. It falls during February's American Heart Month and Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week from Feb. 7-14.

"Mayor Carmen Amato is proud to proclaim every February 12th as Carly Day in Berkeley Township and would like to remind all to 'Don’t forget to wear your RED!!!' " the township announced on its Facebook page.

Carly was born with a congenital heart defect known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and battled it for 18 years.

She was a Special Needs Ambassador at the Bayville Elks Lodge and a 2018 Central Regional High School graduate. She played Challenger Sports and was a fixture on the Lacey Storm travel softball team that her twin sister Ryanne played for.
