NJEA partnered with B 98.5 recognizes Central Regional secretary for “School Spirit Award”!
In general, when most people think of students and school, they think of teachers, however, many folks may not realize the role that our education support professionals play in the daily lives of our students. Our bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, nurses, and counselors make great contributions towards the successes of our students each and every day.
The NJEA in a partnership with Thunder 106 and B 98.5 recognize the significant contributions their members make in the lives of students (NJEA.org). Any student, parent, teacher, or community member can nominate an education support professional for the “School Spirit Award”. The award recipients are chosen monthly and each receive their deserved recognition including a plague, prizes, and an on-air interview with the radio station.

This month, Central Regional High School secretary, Patricia Coppinger, was chosen to receive the “School Spirit Award”. She received the award during an on-air interview with B 98.5 at the high school on Friday, February 13, 2015. Mr. John Truhan, high school math teacher, nominated Patricia for the award. Mr. Truhan added, “Mrs. Coppinger always greets you with her permanent smile and calm demeanor. She is always eager to help or assist a student or faculty member. Even if there is not a request, Mrs. Coppinger will inquire about how your day is going or if everything is ok with you and your family. She is a breath of fresh air and she makes Central Regional a better place. Mrs. Coppinger is one of the main reasons I enjoy coming to work every day!”
When the radio station B 98.5 asked Patricia why school spirit is important, she commented, “School spirit means a feeling of being proud and excited about the school. I think school spirit is very important because it brings staff and students together working as a community, like a family.” She added, “I enjoy my job for many reasons; it is very diversified and never dull. The daily interaction with students that come into our office is my favorite part of the job.”
