Lockdown Cleared At Clara B. Worth School: Berkeley Police

The school was shut down as police responded to a potential incident in the adjacent neighborhood, police said. Students have returned now.

BERKELEY, NJ — Clara B. Worth has reopened after a lockdown due to police investigation shortly before the first day of school was supposed to begin, Berkeley police said Tuesday morning.

At about 7:15 a.m., police responded to a call at Dolphin Circle, the neighborhood adjacent to the school, police said. The incident involved the possibility of guns and an injured person, police said.

As a precaution, a perimeter was set up at the school, even though the threat was outside, police said.

CBW students were transferred to Berkeley Township Elementary School but have since returned to CBW, police said.

"At this time, the original incident was unfounded and no victim or firearm were located," police said. The incident is under investigation. An additional police presence will be in Berkeley schools, police said.
