Driver Injured In One-Car Crash Near Airpark

Accident happened at 6:15 p.m. on Route 530 westbound, police chief says.

A driver was seriously injured in a one-car crash on Route 530 westbound near Robert J. Miller Airpark early this evening, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of relatives, the chief said.

Preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling west on Rt. 530 at 6:15 p.m. when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail on the north side of the roadway, crossed over into the eastbound lane, then struck a guardrail on the south side of the road. The vehicle then overturned on the passenger side. The victim was partially ejected and pinned underneath the vehicle, DiMichele said.

The driver was extricated by the Whiting and Manitou Park Fire Companies and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The crash is under investigation by Berkeley Officer Daniel Williams, Lacey Township police, the Ocean Country FAST Team and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Departments Crime Scene Unit.
