Fire Destroys Berkeley Family's Home: How To Help

An Ocean County Library employee and her family lost everything in the Holiday City fire. A GoFundMe is helping them get back on track.

BERKELEY, NJ — A family lost everything after their home caught fire Friday in the Holiday City section of Berkeley. A GoFundMe is helping them get back on track.

Maryann Craddock, who started the online fundraiser, said her coworker at the Ocean County Library lost everything.

"She is a sweet loving person who would give you the shirt off her back if you were ever in need," Craddock wrote. "She is a wonderful friend, wife and daughter who was living with and taking care of her mom who is not well."

The fire occurred Friday morning in the garage of the Innsbruck Drive home. Crews extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. The Manitou Park Volunteer Fire Company released pictures from the scene showing flames coming from the garage and much of the interior destroyed.

"She is a wonderful friend, wife and daughter who was living with and taking care of her mom who is not well," Craddock said of her coworker.

The fire came at an especially difficult time, as Berkeley and the nation handle the novel coronavirus. As many struggle to even get groceries, this family could use extra help, Craddock says.
