Longtime Berkeley Police Lieutenant Retires

After 25 years with the Berkeley Township Police Department, Lt. Michael Roth is retiring.

BERKELEY, NJ — A longtime lieutenant in the Berkeley Township Police Department is retiring.

Chief Kevin Santucci, Mayor Carmen Amato and all Berkeley police officers wished Lt. Michael Roth a happy retirement after 25 years of service to the township, according to a news release.

"Lt. Roth's service to Berkeley Township can be defined as loyalty, steadfast leadership and dedication to the men and women who served with him," police said. "These qualities as well as Lt. Roth's levity and humor carried many officers through the toughest of times."

Roth started in Berkeley in 1998, police said. Before that, he was a special officer in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park.

During his time in Berkeley, Roth served many roles, police said. He started as a patrol officer before being assigned to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Narcotics Strike Force.

He was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2011 and to lieutenant in 2017.

As lieutenant, Roth served as dayshift patrol commander, records division and held numerous administrative positions, police said.
