Man Arrested After Fracas At Bayville Elks Lodge

The victim was punched in the face, police chief says.

Berkeley police recently arrested a South Toms River man after they responded to a disturbance at the Bayville Elks Lodge on Route 9, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Sergeant Jason Malley, Patrolman Patrick Coletti, Patrolman Clark Baranyay, Patrolman Scott Rudolph, Patrolman Tim Pizzella, Patrolman Ryan Wahl, and Patrolman Al Foca all responded to the lodge at 11:26 p.m. on Dec. 26, the chief said.

When they arrived, Sgt. Malley witnessed a group of individuals surrounding the victim, Jeffrey Smith. Malley then saw Tyrone Brown, 24 of Dover Road, South Toms River punch Smith in the face, DiMichele said.

Brown was arrested, transported to Berkeley police headquarters to the municipal jail, processed, and released on a summons for a future court date, the chief said.
