National Night Out, Latest Concert Coming Up On Wednesday

Both events will be held at the same time at Veterans Park in Bayville

Berkeley Township‘s Fourth Annual National Night Out will feature a variety of entertainment, along with Simply Diamond - a Neil Diamond tribute band concert at Veterans Park in Bayville on Wednesday.

Township officials have merged the two events for the same night. National Night Out begins at 5 p.m., the concert gets underway at 7:30 p.m., Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Members of the Berkeley Township police department, first aid squads, township fire departments, Berkeley’s HAZMAT team, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 and Mounted Patrol units, a State Police Helicopter Unit and a SWAT team will be on hand for equipment demonstrations and to greet the public, the mayor said

The Sheriff’s Department will provide free child ID’s. The Ocean County Security Department and the Berkley Police Bike Patrol will host a bike rodeo for children, to learn bike safety and practice their skills on a course, Amato said.

“All children who arrive with bicycles and helmets can participate and each child will receive a coupon to a local ice cream shop as part of the summer long “Get Caught Being Good” program,” he said. “Our DARE Program will also be on hand with games and prizes for the children to enjoy. The Berkeley Township PBA Local 237 has generously donated a 68-footlong inflatable obstacle course, sumo wrestling suits and a rockwall for all to enjoy free of charge.”

The police department and the township Municipal Alliance will also have a supplemental prescription drug drop-off tent at the event. The township has a permanent drug drop-off box installed in the police department lobby, the mayor said.

“Please come on out for a great evening and bring a chair,” Amato said. “Refreshments are always provided by our area non-profit groups that use these concerts as fundraisers for their organizations.”
