Pedestrian Struck, Killed Crossing Route 9 In Berkeley: Police
The man was apparently walking from Bayville Elks to Riverside Plaza to retrieve his parked car, according to Berkeley police.

BERKELEY, NJ — A man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Route 9 in Berkeley Saturday night, police said.
Police responded to the area of Riverside Plaza at about 6:44 p.m. on Jan. 6 for the report of a struck pedestrian, according to a news release.
It appeared that the man, unidentified by police, was crossing Route 9 from the Bayville Elks Lodge to Riverside Plaza to retrieve his parked car, police said.

While crossing the road, he was hit by a Chevy Cruze that was driving south, police said.
RWJ Paramedics witnessed the accident while in traffic and were able to immediately begin life-saving measures, police said.

These measures were continued by paramedics, Berkeley First Aid Squad and police officers until the man was taken to Community Medical Center, where he was ultimately pronounced dead, police said.
Route 9's southbound lane was closed during the investigation.
