PHOTOS: Made-Over Iconic White Car On Bayville Rooftop Revealed

Since 1968, the car has served as one of Bayville's icons. And with its new makeover, it looks better than ever.

BERKELEY, NJ — The giant champagne bottle. The dinosaur. And of course, the little white car that sits on the rooftop of Cosmos. These unique attractions are what make Bayville, well, Bayville.

But since November, one of those icons has been missing. The white car that's sat on the roof since 1968 was getting a total makeover. And on Saturday, it was revealed to the community, looking better than ever (WATCH VIDEO BELOW).

"I want to thank everybody associated with redoing this landmark, because it really is a landmark for our community," Mayor Carmen Amato said before the reveal, reading a proclamation naming Aug. 5 "The Little White Car Day in Berkeley Township."

In the 1960s, Cosmo Zaccaro and his family moved from Elizabeth down to the Jersey Shore, where he opened Cosmos Auto Parts Store. The car went on the roof in 1968 and has been regularly made over every 15 years or so, Amato said.

After Zaccaro's retirement, Fenix Parts took over, but kept the tradition of the white car alive.

Though the reveal was briefly endangered when the tarp covering the car did not want to move, but officials got it off and the made-over car was met with cheers and applause.
