Public Hearings Held On Expanding Berkeley Parks

Residents will be able to voice thoughts about a potential dog park at Butler Boulevard and expanding the Eastern Boulevard Soccer Complex.

BERKELEY, NJ — Two public hearings are coming up in Berkeley, and both have to do with potential parks in the township.

Both of these hearings will be held at Berkeley Town Hall, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Rd, Bayville, on Aug. 3. Each has to do with protected Green Acres land in Berkeley.

The first hearing will be at 6 p.m., focusing on a potential dog park at Butler Boulevard. The proposed plan is to turn 0.9 acres of vacant land into a dog park with a 24 car parking lot.

Following this hearing at 7 p.m. is a proposed expansion of the Eastern Boulevard Soccer Complex. This proposal would take 31.9 acres of vacant land and expand the existing recreational facility, including three new soccer fields, three parking lots, three softball fields and a roller hockey rink.

Anyone interested in further information regarding the proposals can visit the municipal clerk's office at Town Hall, where the documents are available for public inspection.

Comments will be accepted on these proposals until Aug. 17. Those unable to attend the public hearings can also submit comments to the township administrator at (732)-244-7400 or Town Hall. A copy of any comments submitted in this request should also be sent to to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Transactions and Public Land Administration, Public Land Compliance Section, P.O. Box 420, Mail Code 401-07B, Trenton, NJ 08625-0420.

On or after Aug. 18, Berkeley officials may taken formal action to approve the proposals.
