Softball league honors Hall of Famers, season champs

Think spring! More players 55 & up wanted for 2016 season

The Berkeley Senior Softball League inducted three longtime players and managers into its Hall of Fame.

The selection of Charlie Dilkes, Rudy Lucrezi and Sam Carnevale was announced this week at the league’s annual picnic, attended by more than 100. Each honoree received a plaque honoring his achievements.

Trophies were presented to the winning teams in the spring-summer season: Holiday Service Center, repeating as champions of both the A Division regular season and playoffs; Cash 4 College, winners of the B Division regular season; Ryan Funeral Homes, B Division playoff champs; the Red Rockers, repeating as regular-season winners in the Tony Mantarro Division; and the Slammers, repeating as Mantarro Division playoff champs.

The township-sponsored league consists of A and B Divisions for players age 55 and up (minimum 60 years old for residents of other Ocean County towns), and the Mantarro Division for those born in 1950 or earlier.

Additional players are being sought for the Berkeley Senior Softball League’s 2016 season. Games will be played weekday mornings at Whispering Pines Park in Holiday City and at Veterans Park in Bayville. Information is available at 732-300-9524.
