Unlicensed Driver Overturns Car In 3-Vehicle Berkeley Crash: Police

The driver was turning onto the Parkway ramp when his car struck a car heading north, rolled over and struck another car at a stop sign.

BERKELEY, NJ — One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash in Berkeley on Oct. 11 after an unlicensed, uninsured driver with fake license plates overturned his car, Berkeley police said.

Nicholas Schumann was driving a Chevy Tahoe south on Double Trouble Road shortly before 3 p.m. and tried to turn on the Parkway south ramp when he collided with a Ford Fiesta heading north, police said.

The Tahoe overturned at the intersection of the Exit 77 ramp and Double Trouble Road, police said.

When the Tahoe rolled over, it also struck a Nissan Rogue that was waiting at the off-ramp stop sign, police said.

Schumann and his passengers were uninjured but were taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital as a precaution, according to police. The Nissan driver was also uninjured, but the Ford driver was hospitalized for chest pain, police said.

Investigation revealed that Schumann was driving with no license, no valid insurance and had fictitious license plates, police said. He was issued summonses for careless driving, fictitious plates, suspended drivers license, no insurance and no registration, police said.

Double Trouble Road was shut down during the investigation and while vehicles were towed, according to police.
