Unlocked Vehicle Burglaries, DWI In Berkeley: Police Blotter

The October police blotter includes several warrant arrests as well.

BERKELEY, NJ — The Berkeley Township police department released the following arrests and incidents that police responded to in October.

OCT. 2: Patrolman Michael Tanis and Patrolman Jacob Camaraza arrested Jason C. Samaritano, 43, of Brick Township, on an active failure to appear warrant out of the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department, amounting to $500. Samaritan was processed and released on his own recognizance upon posting bail.

OCT. 2: Patrolman Tanis and Patrolman Murawski responded to a residence on the 100 block of Roxton Place to investigate a reported disturbance. They determined that the disturbance derived from an unwanted guest refusing to leave the premises despite the homeowner’s request. While attempting to mediate the situation, the officers observed CDS and hypodermic needles in plain view. Tiffanni DiDolce, 23, of Roxton Place, and James E. Fullmer, 23, of West Deptford, were arrested and later remanded to the Ocean County Jail.

OCT. 2: Police responded to the 100 block of Cranmer Road for a reported burglary to a motor vehicle. An unlocked vehicle was entered and approximately $23 in loose change was stolen. A canvass of the area for witnesses, suspects, and further evidence turned up nothing. "We would like to remind township residents to double-check their vehicles and make sure they are locked prior to going to bed at night. This simple action may help prevent you from becoming a victim!"

OCT. 4: Patrolman DJ Williams and Patrolman Johnny Medina arrested Michael J. Lovanyak, 56, of Basseterri Street, on a failure to appear warrant out of Brick Township, amounting to $500. He was processed and released on his own recognizance.

OCT. 7: Police responded to the 200 block of Virginia Avenue for a reported burglary. A covered automobile tent on the premises was entered and several boxes of miscellaneous items were stolen. A canvass of the area for witnesses, suspects, and further evidence produced nothing of assistance. OCT. 8: Police responded to the 100 block of Scarborough Place for a reported burglary to a motor vehicle. An unlocked vehicle was entered and an undisclosed amount of loose change was stolen. A canvass of the area for witnesses, suspects, and further evidence produced nothing of assistance.

OCT. 8: Police responded to 699 Bay Boulevard (MJ’s Pizza Bar and Grill) for a report of criminal mischief that caused damage to a vehicle. The registered owner of a 2007 Toyota Yaris told officers her vehicle’s tires had been slashed in the parking lot sometime during the night hours of October 7. A canvass of the area and review of video surveillance of the parking lot produced no clues.

OCT. 9: Police responded to the 400 block of Princeton Avenue for a reported burglary to a motor vehicle. An unlocked vehicle was entered and a wallet containing credit cards and identification cards along with a cell phone charger was stolen. A canvass of the area for witnesses, suspects, and further evidence produced nothing of assistance.

OCT. 15: Police responded to the 100 block of Brooks Avenue for a reported burglary. Someone removed a window air conditioning unit, entered the home and stole two Xbox video game consoles. Officers on scene conducted a canvass of the area and were able to obtain evidence that is currently being processed by the Detective Bureau.

OCT.16: Officers responded to the Bayville QuickChek, 768 Route 9, for a reported shoplifting incident. While enroute, Police Communications gave a description of the suspect who had fled the area on foot. The suspect, identified as Charles M. Morton, 58, of Brick, was located shortly after by Patrolman Ryan Wahl and Patrolman Michael Bulwinski. Police said Morton admitted to stealing a package of sliced American cheese from QuickChek and produced the stolen property, which resulted in his arrest. He was processed and released from custody on a summons with a court date set.

OCT. 17: Sgt. Michael Ptaszenski and Patrolman Robert Murawski arrested Christian M. Hernandez, 23, of Stafford Township, on a failure to appear warrant out of Tinton Falls, amounting to $500. He was processed and released on his own recognizance upon posting bail.

OCT. 17: Patrolman Sean Varady arrested Madeline Walsh, 30, of Brick, on a failure to appear warrant out of Berkeley, amounting to $1000. She was processed and released on her own recognizance with a court date set.

OCT. 17: Patrolman Edward Hendrickson and Patrolman Alexander Houle responded to the area of Mule Road and Santiago Drive for a reported intoxicated driver who had allegedly hit a curb and was parked in the road. The officers reported the driver had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath as she spoke to them. They also observed an open bottle of Absolut vodka in the cup holder near the center console. Jennifer E. Decastro, 42, of Brick, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests. She was processed and released to the care of a family member. She also was issued summonses for reckless driving and open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. Her vehicle was impounded as per John’s Law.

OCT. 18: Patrolman Scott Rudolph and Patrolman William Shoemaker arrested Alexis M. Azaceta, 31, of Grant Street, on a charge of attempting to fill a fraudulent prescription for Adderall at the ShopRite pharmacy. She was processed and remanded to the Ocean County Jail.

OCT. 22: Patrolman Michael Bulwinski arrested Quashon S. Askew, 32, of Brick, on a failure to appear warrant out of Brick amounting to $1,039. He was processed and turned over to Brick Township police.

OCT. 23: Patrolman Timothy Pizzella and Patrolman Richard Zeiser responded to the 500 block of Holly Boulevard for a reported burglary. The victim told the officers that he had recently evicted a tenant and believed that she forced entry into the residence through a window and drilled out the new locks that were installed. He provided proper paperwork showing eviction and requested that the officers check the residence for her. The woman, Pamela P. Discerbo, was found by police in the home and arrested. She was processed and released on a summons with a court date set.

OCT. 24: Patrolman Timothy Pizzella arrested Roy Piazza, 42, of Toms River, on a failure to appear warrant out of Robbinsville amounting to $750. He was processed and released on his own recognizance upon posting bail.

OCT. 27: Patrolman Ryan Wahl and Patrolman Mainor Puerto arrested Kyle D. O’Connor, 21, of Pelican Drive, on a failure to appear warrant out of Beachwood, amounting to $600. He was processed and turned over to the Beachwood Police Department.
