Waretown Woman Charged With Drunk Driving At Island Beach State Park

Antoinette Vassallo, 19, was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses, police chief says.

Berkeley Township police recently arrested a Waretown woman caught speeding along Route 35 in South Seaside Park and straight into Island Beach State Park, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Special Officer Class II James Tillett spotted the vehicle traveling at a high rate at 1:09 a.m. on Jan. 29. The driver, Antoinette Vassallo, 19, Central Avenue went through the park gates and into the park, where she continued speeding and swerving on the roadway, the chief said.

Tillett conducted a motor vehicle stop. He was assisted by Patrolman Christopher Shick, who conducted standard field sobriety tests and determined Vassallo was under the influence, DiMichele said.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters. She received multiple motor vehicle summonses and was released to a family member. Her vehicle was towed pursuant to John’s Law, the chief said.
