Watch This 12-Year-Old Sink A Basketball Shot From Half-Court

Ryan Kelly, a sixth-grader from Berkeley Township, hit the shot during a charity basketball game on Friday night in Toms River.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Half-court shot contests are a popular pastime at basketball games. They entertain because hitting the hoop from 47 feet away is nearly impossible for almost everyone (unless you're Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, that is).

On Friday night, however, a 12-year-old from Berkeley Township hit a shot from midcourt at the Pine Belt Arena, much to the surprise and delight of everyone in the arena, on the campus of Toms River High School North.

Ryan Kelly, a sixth-grader who will be attending Central Regional Middle School in the fall, was taking part in the half-court shooting contest at halftime of the Heroes for Hannah benefit basketball game, which was raising money to help the family of Central Regional senior Hannah Donner. Donner was seriously injured in a car accident in September 2016 and the event was to assist with Hannah's medical expenses.

Contestants made donations to help the family for the opportunity to shoot, and Ryan's mom paid for him to take two shots.

The youngster's first shot went wide as he crossed the midcourt line. But on the second round, Kelly's 42-footer (a high school basketball court is 84 feet from end to end, as opposed to the 94 feet of an NBA court) banked off the backboard and into the net.

His older brother, Andrew, was playing in the game and gives his brother an attaboy after his victory was announced.
