Worker Falls From Water Tower In Berkeley: Police

The worker was "severely injured" in the fall, which is under investigation by Berkeley police and OSHA.

BERKELEY, NJ — A man was severely injured when he fell from a water tower in Berkeley while working inside it on Thursday, police said.

Officers found the unidentified worker laying outside of the tower's maintenance tube within the 1000 block of Route 9 at about 11 a.m. on Jan. 25, police said.

He suffered compound fractures to his arms and legs, according to police. Berkeley EMS took the man to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. An update on his current status was not immediately available Thursday.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was free climbing inside the maintenance tube when he fell, according to police.

Berkeley police and OSHA are currently investigating the incident. Representatives from Aqua Water were also on scene to assist, police said.

The executive director of the Berkeley Township Municipal Utilities Authority clarified on Friday that the incident did not take place at the township's Station Road Water Tower.
