Author of “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy” Headlines Breast Cancer Program at Somerset Medical Center on Oct. 24

Somerset Medical Center
will host “BRAvo in the Fight Against Breast Cancer” featuring Geralyn Lucas,
author of “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy” on Thursday, October 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at The Steeplechase Cancer
Center, 30 Rehill Avenue,
in Somerville, NJ. Geralyn Lucas will tell her
inspirational story of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of
27, how she decided to get a mastectomy, important lessons learned and an empowering message for women of all ages who have and
have not been affected by cancer. Lucas will be joined for the presentation by
Kathleen Toomey, MD, medical director of The Steeplechase Cancer Center, and
Maria Hill, N.P., nurse practitioner, who will discuss risk factors, causes,
prevention strategies and the importance of early detection and treatment
options. The event also includes the BRAvo exhibition, a special collection of
brassieres designed to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention. Lucas will
also be available to sign copies of her book. The program is offered free of
charge in collaboration with the Cancer Support Community of Central New
