GOP Incumbents Roll to Victory in District 23

Sen. Michael Doherty and assemblymen Erik Peterson and John DiMaio each earn new terms.

Republican incumbents rolled to victory Tuesday in the District 23 Legislative race.

State Sen. Michael Doherty earned a new term by winning 68 percent of the vote. Democratic challenger Gerard Bowers picked up 31 percent and Independent Daniel Seyler received 1 percent of the vote, according to AP results reported on NJ.com.

Incumbent assemblymen Erik Peterson and John DiMaio easily won re-election by each garnering 34 percent of the vote. The two defeated Democratic challengers John Valentine and Ralph Drake.

District 23 spans Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties. Among the towns included are Bridgewater, Bedminster, Peapack-Gladstone and Hackettstown.
