New Friday Afternoon Movie Series Debuts at Bernardsville Library
New Friday Afternoon Movie Series Debuts at Bernardsville Library. First movie is "Arrival."

Bernardsville Public Library will begin a monthly series of afternoon movies on Friday, May 12 at 2:00 pm with a showing of Best Picture nominee and academy-award winning movie, "Arrival" (2016) starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. It's exciting and mysterious science fiction: linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) leads an elite team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors.
Future films, ranging from classics and drama, to comedies and documentaries, will be shown on the fourth Friday of the month at 2:00 pm. They will be selected for cultural enrichment and for appeal to a wide variety of tastes and interests in the community. The series is made possible by a gift from the Friends of the Bernardsville Library and is organized by a committee of the Friends of the Library. Ed English, a long-time filmmaker, heads the committee. The hope is that viewers will linger after the films to discuss them. In some cases, books and other supporting materials will be recommended before the films. Upcoming films include "Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World," directed by Werner Herzog, the 2015 "Great Gatsby," and "My Blue Heaven" starring Steve Martin.
There is no charge to attend the movies, but advance sign-up is requested. Register online at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org and follow the link from Adult Programs, or call the library at 908-766-0118 to sign up.
