Number Of ‘Baby Trumps’ Balloons To 6

The 'Baby Trump' balloons ordered by Branchburg and Hillsborough locals will be delivered to NJ in the middle of August.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Surpassing fundraising goals, the number of “Baby Trump” balloons has grown to six – and now they could be delivered to New Jersey in the next few weeks.

Jim Girvan of Branchburg, who started a GoFundMe fundraiser to bring “Baby Trump” to America, said his group “Baby Trump Tour” is now looking to buy up to six balloons. The goal was initially to bring one balloon to New Jersey and then grew to four and now six may be delivered.

The 20-foot-tall balloon — depicting President Donald Trump as an angry, diaper-wearing, cell phone-carrying baby — made its debut on July 13 when Trump visited Great Britain. And the fundraiser was to bring the balloon to America.

Girvan said he ordered the balloons this week and it will take about two to three weeks for them to be delivered to New Jersey.

The balloons will then be stored in New Jersey and distributed across the country to major cities.

Girvan is not sure if he will wait until Trump is in town to debut the balloon in Bedminster but does say the balloon may be grounded to avoid any conflictions with the Secret Service.

The balloon doesn’t conflict with any Federal Aviation Administration rules, Girvan said. But the Secret Service does have height limitations on balloons of nothing higher than 150 feet in the air.

To avoid this, Girvan said he doesn’t expect the balloon to fly any higher than 60 or 80 feet in the air.

The “Baby Trump Tour” is still figuring out what cities will receive a balloon first and are also looking for volunteers to help with development of a website, public relations, attorneys and more. Those interested in volunteering for any service can email babytrumptour@gmail.com.

Additionally, Girvan says he is not worried about activists who have threatened to pop the balloons and adds he is just exercising his legal right to free speech.

“We will address it as it comes about,” Girvan said of the threats. “Obviously a threat like that requires violating the law by discharging a firearm and hope people will follow the law. I hope law enforcement will also follow through with enforcing it.”
