"Paintings of the Jersey Shore" on View at Bernardsville Library
An exhibition of paintings by Stephen D'Amato, on view from March 29 through April 24.

Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present “Paintings of the Jersey Shore,” an exhibition of paintings by Stephen D’Amato, on view from March 29 through April 24. The show consists of paintings dating from 2004 to 2014. “The Jersey Shore has always been a creative source of inspiration for me,” said Mr. D’Amato, “The locations I have painted include Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Cape May and the Wildwoods.”
Mr. D’Amato’s focus is primarily with street scenes, buildings and waterfront areas. When looking for interesting subject matter, he sometimes gravitates toward the decay and worn look of an abandoned dock, seedy boardwalk shops, or a loosely dangling street sign. “I look for a connection to the past, both aesthetically and historically,” he said, “I feel an affection and spiritual connection with these areas and I continue to search for ways to convey it. I am also inspired by interesting shapes, patterns, light and shadows that define the subject matter.”
Mr. D’Amato has exhibited his paintings in New Jersey and New York City, and he has taught art classes throughout New Jersey. His education includes studying art at Syracuse University and Rutgers University. He later spent five years studying at The Art Students League of New York, focusing on studying drawing and painting.
