Paintings by Sam Bleecker on Exhibition at Bernardsville Library in November

"All that Jazz," paintings by Millington resident Sam Bleecker, will be on exhibit at Bernardsville Public Library, November 1-30.

“All that Jazz," paintings by Millington resident Sam Bleecker, will be on exhibit at Bernardsville Public Library during the month of November.

Mr. Bleecker was trained as a physicist at the University of Maryland and as a molecular biophysicist at Yale University. Following graduation, he worked for Bell Labs writing speeches for executives and, in general, helping the company explain its science and technology. His abstract paintings, motivated by mathematics, physics and biological themes, have been exhibited at galleries around New Jersey.

“Numbers and their connection to our understanding of the universe and our lives within it drive one aspect of my art,” says Mr. Bleecker, “[I work] to somehow link the assemblage of numbers and their geometric patterns into a larger, more aesthetic whole. In my abstract paintings, much like a musician, I use color and form as my notes, but rarely to write a song, but rather as a jazz ensemble. It’s the interplay of notes, not meaning, that is essential. The paintings I share here represent some of the outcomes of these considerations. "

Mr. Bleecker wrote a monthly column on computers for one of the first PC magazines and, for a year, a column on astronomy for a monthly science magazine. He is the author of “The Politics of Architecture,” a book on the numerous building projects of Nelson A. Rockefeller. He launched several enterprises: his own high-technology consulting firm, the nation’s first software rental library, the first national software exchange, and, the Literary Connection, an early online service that matched writers with publishers and producers. He was also the director of a year-long “Office of the Future” project on computers at Innova in Houston, TX. For more than a decade, Mr. Bleecker was a travel photographer, and he and his wife shared a byline as travel columnists for the Chicago Tribune. His science and travel articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and national magazines.

The exhibition at Bernardsville Library will be on view from November 1 to November 30 during regular library hours unless a meeting is in progress. For further information, call the library at 908-766-0118.
