Sundays at Three with Folk Music Duo "Andy and Judy "--RE-SCHEDULED

Free concert of of original folk songs, traditional and modern folk classics.

The Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library invite you to to the re-scheduled free concert with the folk music duo Andy and Judy Daigle, known as “Andy & Judy,” on Sunday, February 7 at 3:00 pm at Bernardsville Public Library. They will perform a concert of original folk songs, traditional and modern folk classics.

Andy and Judy Daigle are folk singers and songwriters from the Boston area. Their musical influences range from “old-timey” traditional songs right through the folk music stalwarts such as John Prine, Bob Dylan, Ian and Sylvia, and Peter, Paul and Mary. They use the guitar, mandolin, banjo and piano to set the mood and character for each of their original lyric driven songs. Their performances are highlighted by the quality of their vocal work, each individually and joined together with beautiful harmonies. An Andy and Judy concert has something for everyone with songs ranging from upbeat, toe tapping traditional folk to heart breaking country ballads and stirring gospel tunes.

New England natives, Andy and Judy Daigle have been singing together since 2009, first performing at open mic nights where they featured cover versions of songs written by their favorite songwriters. Today, this talented folk duo performs regularly at libraries, coffeehouses and concert venues where they have been featured artists, openers and headliners blending popular folk covers with their growing list of original songs. They tour throughout the Midwest and East Coast states, and have been featured on popular folk music radio programs.

An Andy and Judy performance elicits sing-a-longs and smiles as they ask the audience to participate in old favorites and thoughtful listening, and introduce their own compelling songs. Their close harmonies blend Judy’s evocative alto and Andy’s deep baritone. Beginning instrumentally with a classic folk guitar base, Andy and Judy have deepened their sound through the addition of mandolin, banjo, piano, harmonica, and with support musicians, bass and percussion. The instrumental complexity presented on their three CDs, “Riverbend,” “Dragonfly,” and “Follow Your Dream,” support the increasing lyrical depth of their compositions. Their songwriting style has emerged from old-time traditional and folk music, and includes country, gospel and popular music influences. They have written many songs about historical people, places and events. Their songs are carefully crafted and performed so that the listener experiences all of the emotions woven into their music.

Andy and Judy each come from musical families and their performances draw from their participation in various choruses and choirs throughout their lives. Judy is from southeastern Massachusetts where she was introduced to folk music at an early age through her mom’s Peter, Paul and Mary records. She started guitar lessons at age six with the hope of joining her church folk group. A few years later she stopped playing guitar and joined the school choir. When she started performing with Andy, she went back to the guitar and added piano and mandolin to the mix. Andy was born in Maine and spent most of his youth in upstate New York, where he grew up listening to folk and church music while traveling with his family before eventually settling in the Boston area. He has taught himself to play guitar, banjo and the harmonica.
