Turner and the Sea: Museum Lecture at Bernardsville Library
An illustrated slide lecture about the great 19th century British artist J.M.W. Turner for whom the sea was a central subject.

Vivian Gordon, art historian and long-time lecturer in the Education Department at The Metropolitan Museum, will present an illustrated talk on "Turner and the Sea" at Bernardsville Public Library on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:30 pm.
The sea was a central subject for the great 19th century British artist J.M.W. Turner. Nearly one-third of his extant pictures are seascapes – from his very first exhibited painting done in his early twenties to works created in the months before his death at 76. Turner represented the sea in all its guises – calm or stormy stages for myth and history, settings of contemporary life, or striking expressions of the awesome power of nature. This talk coincides with the exhibit "Turner’s Modern and Ancient Ports: Passages through Time" now on view at The Frick Collection in New York City.
