Violence against innocent people seems to have become common-place to those not directly affected by the tragedy. Shootings and other acts of extreme violence have taken place on military bases, college campuses, high schools and even elementary schools. As a personal protection and safety expert I am always considering other options that could have been employed to save lives. As a parent I am chilled when I watch the news reports following an incident. Like virtually every parent in the world watching a report and seeing the absolute devastation on the faces of families...I am thankful that my child is safe.
The President has the Secret Service assigned to protect him. The country has the Military and now Homeland Security assigned to protect it against terrorism. Federal Agents, State Police, and local law enforcement are assigned to protect and serve the general public. So, who is assigned to protect your family? You can see where I'm going here so you already know that the answer is YOU.
Perhaps you never considered yourself as a protector of your family. Being a good earner and providing your family with a comfortable lifestyle has always been the focus and goal. You look to create a perfect world for your family. Unfortunately you can not control what happens outside of your family. A down economy always stimulates a rise in crime. A lot of people are out of work. Government services can not help everyone and therefore some turn to crime as a way to survive. Many of our best communities have an underlying drug problem which can also result in violence against innocent people.
Instead of asking, "What can be done?". You might ask yourself, "What can I do?". Okay, now we are getting somewhere. What can you do? The first thing you can do is start thinking of yourself as the Protector of My Family. Proclaim your new status at dinner. Build your A-Team. Become the Warrior Dad or Commander Mom that you know you have always had inside you.
Great, now you have blazingly given yourself the title of Protector of My Family...how are you going to back it up? Well, what did you do when you decided that you wanted to make a good living? You got training. What did you do when you were 16 and wanted to drive? You got training. When it comes to a real-life situation that requires split second action there are only two types of people in the world. Trained and untrained. Whether its landing an airplane, performing surgery, or trading stocks. You are either trained or you are not.
There are generally two types of training when it comes to self and family protection. Training that works and training that does not. It is up to you as the Protector of My Family to choose the right type of training. I know what you're thinking...this is the spot where I plug my own Martial Arts Academy. Nope. This is too important for you to take anyone's word on what they are teaching. You need to visit a few Martial Arts schools to see what their focus is on in their training. Does it look practical? Does it look like it would work? Does the instructor have real-world experience? Can you easily understand the instructor corrections? Are the students in the class proficient?
As a martial arts instructor and fighter with over 35 years of hard-earned and proven experience and legitimate holder of Black Belts in Sil Jun Do Defensive Tactics, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing and American Karate/ Kickboxing as well as being a Certified Executive Protection Specialist I am well suited to training my students for reality in a unique, innovative and fun way. Please check out some of the local martial arts schools and get going on your training. Get your family involved too.
Okay, now the shameless plug...Please stop in RUSH Defense and Fitness at 165 Morristown Rd. in Bernardsville just to say hi...ask me some questions...pick my brain...I'd be glad to assist anyone who wants to learn ways to protect their family.
