BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The sound of barking dogs alerted a Bloomfield resident to the presence of a car burglar earlier this month, authorities announced Thursday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following statement about the incident, which took place on Jan. 3:

“Officers responded to the 500-block of Broughton Avenue on report of a theft from auto. On Jan. 3 at 4:43 a.m., a resident’s dogs started barking. He looked out the window and noticed a white sedan parked next to his 2020 white Jeep Grand Cherokee. The suspect vehicle fled north bound on Broughton Avenue. The following items were missing from his vehicle: laptop, wallet, and numerous cards. A stolen white Infiniti is possibly involved. This incident is under investigation.”
