Bloomfield Bridge Construction Delayed
The kickoff of an effort to perform much-needed repairs of the Berkeley Avenue Bridge in Bloomfield has been pushed back.

Bloomfield, NJ – The kickoff of an effort to perform much-needed repairs of the Berkeley Avenue Bridge in Bloomfield has been pushed back, according to a report.
An Essex County spokesman told NorthJersey.com that construction on the ailing bridge – originally set for this week – has been rescheduled to start on Feb. 15.
The two week delay – reportedly paperwork-related - won’t affect the overall duration of the project, the spokesman told NorthJersey.com.

The bridge – built in 1922 – is now “structurally deficient and functionally obsolete,” according to a New Jersey Department of Transportation FY 2015 Capital Program document.
“The existing horizontal and vertical sight distance for motorists is substandard,” the DOT document states. “[Essex County] is proposing to replace the existing bridge with a new, two-span bridge with slight horizontal alignment improvements.”
