Bloomfield Cop Takes A Punch In The Face While Making Arrest

The Essex County man was hiding from police in a basement and came out swinging.

Bloomfield police arrested an Essex County man for aggravated assault after he was cornered in a basement following a foot chase and came out swinging.

According to police, the incident took place around noon on June 23, near Ampere Parkway and Tunbridge Place, when a victim called to report that a man had punched him.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect – later identified as Levon Moon, 25, of Newark – jumped over a fence and fled the area.

Moon eventually ran into a building on Tunbridge Place and hid in the basement, police said.

After a resident pointed out Moon’s hiding place, officers converged at the door and ordered him to surrender, at which point he began to exit the basement.

When officers told Moon that he was under arrest, he put his hands in a fighting stance and began to swing at them, making contact with one officer’s head and face.

He was eventually subdued and arrested without injury, and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.

The officer wasn’t seriously injured, police told Patch.
