Bloomfield Police Announce DWI Checkpoint On May 5
Bloomfield police say there are a "disproportionate number of drunk driving incidents" on this busy local road.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield Police Department announced that its officers plan to conduct a DWI sobriety checkpoint on Bloomfield Avenue on Friday, May 5. According to a police alert, the checkpoint is in response to “statistics demonstrating a disproportionate number of drunk driving incidents in the area.”
The operation is being conducted to raise awareness of impaired driving by educating motorist and arresting impaired drivers, police said.
During a similar operation at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and North 16th Street from 11 p.m. on May 5, to 3 a.m. on May 6, 2016, police issued 45 summonses, made four DWI arrests and impounded five vehicles, authorities said.

Funding for the operation is provided by the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund, authorities stated.
