According to police:
“Another scam is circulating the area. This time, a resident reported receiving a check in the mail for $3,775 from MetLife Survey, Inc. Included with the check was a letter instructing the resident to deposit the check then purchase six different Vanilla Reload gift cards and provide card numbers to MetLife Survey, keeping the balance of the money as payment for their services. At no point was the resident contacted by MetLife Survey and has never done any business with this company in the past. Luckily, the resident alerted the police department before they deposited the check. This is a scam!”
